Adventures in Backyard Birding. Are there any backyard bird experts out there? Maybe someone can confirm whether or not I’m correct in guessing what’s been going on in this nest the last six days.
DAY ONE: we find a nest located in one of my client’s container gardens (where we often find cigar stubs), but on May 25th we found a nest with one egg.
DAYS THREE, FOUR & FIVE (May 30th): new eggs arrive almost every day, and at first they look the same, but upon “egg inspection,” is something else going on?
Are there two different kinds of eggs in this nest? Possibly Song Sparrow and Cowbird? I’m wondering if the dark-splotched eggs are Song Sparrow, and the lightly spotted eggs are Cowbird…. Or, are they all Song Sparrow eggs?
